SOUTHERN GOSPEL - by Lou Hildreth

A big, warm “hello” to our BAGMA friends! Howard and I take great pleasure in reading the TRUMPET for all the good things happening in this part of the country. God is blessing the strong commitment of the BAGMA leadership and members. We will see many of you in Louisville, Kentucky, at the National Quartet Convention September 13t h –19th. This is the 53rd year and I have never missed one. The Wills Family sang at the first NQC and for the next fifteen years. On September 29th we will be at Dollywood for the SGMA Hall Of Fame Induction and Singing News Fan Awards. The 2010 inductees are Connie Hopper, Jan Buckner Goff, Danny Gaither, Bill Hefner, Arthur Smith, and Sam Goodman. We are thankful we can attend these events one more time. God has been so good to Howard and me, and our BAGMA friends are way up on the list of blessings.

Thanks to many of you who bought my book—DEEP WITHIN MY HEART LIES A MELODY. I recently sold out the first edition of it and ordered the second printing. For those of you who do not have it, check out my updated web site. In the book I address one of the frequent questions people ask my brother Bob, namesake of the famous fiddler Bob Wills. I also share the excitement of being one of the Homecoming Friends on the Gaither videos, and the influence of Bill and Gloria in Christian music and on my life. Gloria wrote the introduction, and Bill’s photo and comments are on the cover of the book. Larry Gatlin’s remarks are also on the cover, and precious words from Dottie Rambo. In the book we write about making the first Gatlin records when they were a young gospel singing family. A chapter is devoted to the Wills Family TV Series and the Inspirationals Quartet. Treasured photos are included—Mark Lowry, Duane Allen, Larry Ford, John Hall, Roger McDuff, Jory Waldon, Jim Wesson, Ralph Green, Marion Snider, Sandi Patti, Dottie Rambo, Vestal Goodman, Eva Mae LeFevre, Gary McSpadden, Hemphills, Jake Hess, Hovie Lister, James Blackwood, Les Beasley, Janet Paschal, Joe Moscheo, Judy Nelon, Cynthia Clawson, Gerald Crabb, Hoppers, Lillie Knauls, Larry Scott, JP Miller, and some collector’s photos of Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys. I still enjoy fiddle music, but I’m so thankful “Pop” Wills insisted that we sing gospel music. My friends, it is the music that glorifies our redeemer, Jesus Christ.
